Stop Waiting For Perfect
My friend wants to grow his email list. He told me he wants to create his “ultimate lead magnet”: a perfect 10/10 slam dunk experience that will convert like crazy.
It will give the subscriber incredible value. It will position him as a true niche expert. He’s been planning it for months.
Sounds amazing, right? Sure. A lead magnet like that would be great. Right now though, he doesn't have any lead magnets, so his current (non-existent) lead magnet is a 0/10.
I’m not judging him, or anyone else in this situation. I do this all the time.

I wanted to build a professional website for my LinkedIn consultancy. It was really important to me that this website’s look and feel was perfectly aligned with my LinkedIn content. I wanted every visitor to be wowed as soon as they landed on the page.
I would see other creators' websites and get inspired, but also frustrated that I didn't have a website that looked like theirs. I would spend hours reworking my brief in Google Docs, and taking screenshots of their beautiful websites. I told myself I would build something similar just a few weeks or maybe a month from now.
But I didn’t. Instead, I’m a LinkedIn creator with 100,000 followers and no website. I try not to think how much money I’ve left on the table with this strategy. Probably $200k. Maybe more.
Over the past week, I finally made my peace with how incredibly stupid this was, and threw together a basic placeholder site in Squarespace.
It’s not a 10/10 experience. No one is going to be wowed by it. I used a basic template. The fonts aren’t quite right. The colours are a little off. It’s a disaster on mobile.
On the other hand, it will get the job done. The copy is good. The testimonials are good. It’s clear who I help and the outcome I achieve.
You can download my free resources, or find out more about the services I offer. You can find out more about me, and read my content.
It's about a 4/10 right now. Not great, but a whole lot better than 0/10.

If you’re reading this thinking about that perfect 10/10 website, or lead magnet, or offer, or email welcome sequence that you need to build, I get it. I like nice things. I like paying attention to all the details. And one day, you and I will both knock it out of the park.
But for now, let’s stop waiting for perfect. Let’s just do the 4/10 version.
